RHEX ROBOT 3D MODEL

The Rhex robot is a concept inspired by insect locomotion that utilizes six “legs” to move across rough terrain. This model was developed with the Dynamic Adaptive Robotic Technologies Lab (DART) to study multiple gear ratios and compare the power consumed by the DC motors across a fixed distance. Using this data, an optimized gear was created (shown above) that outputs high torque while the leg of the robot is in contact with ground and high speed when the leg is in the air.
